Our hearts and thoughts are with the families of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, David McAtee and all of the Black community right now. We also know that love and thoughts are not enough to right the wrongs historically and currently inflicted upon Black and Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC.)
At Baby Blues Connection, we are committed to serving our Portland families by providing free services for mothers and families struggling with the postpartum period. We recognize that huge disparities in mental and physical health exist for BIPOC mothers. A lack of access to care, distrust of social and mental health services, fear of being seen like a “bad mother,” or the potential of DHS getting involved, are real ways in which our current system does not support BIPOC mothers and families.
One of the last words that George Floyd spoke was “Mama.” We refuse to stand by and watch Black mothers continue to lose their sons and daughters to police violence and racial inequality. Black lives matter yesterday, today and always.
